The Department of Gender Studies, University of the Punjab, Lahore, had the honor of hosting Saman Rai, Secretary, Women Development Department Punjab, on her visit to the department. The purpose of the visit was to congratulate Prof. Dr. Rubeena Zakar on her appointment as Chairperson, Department of Gender Studies.

During the visit, Ms. Saman Rai presented a souvenir and bouquet on behalf of the Women Development Department as a gesture of appreciation and goodwill. The visit reflected a strong commitment to institutional collaboration and mutual support for advancing women’s empowerment initiatives in Punjab.

Ms. Saman Rai and Dr. Safdar Abbas also held a detailed discussion with Prof. Dr. Rubeena Zakar and faculty regarding the ongoing initiatives and projects of the Women Development Department.

The dialogue emphasized the importance of strengthening coordination between academia and government institutions to address gender-related challenges effectively.

Furthermore, Ms. Saman Rai and Prof. Dr. Rubeena Zakar engaged in a comprehensive discussion on future collaboration, focusing on joint research initiatives, student internships, capacity-building programs, and enhancing employment opportunities for students in the domain of women’s development. Both sides expressed a strong commitment to fostering meaningful partnerships that bridge academic knowledge with practical policy implementation.

In this regard, both institutions have agreed in principle to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to formalize their collaboration and expand opportunities for students, researchers, and professionals working in the field of gender and development.

The visit concluded on a positive note, reinforcing the shared vision of promoting gender equality, women’s empowerment, and sustainable development through collaborative efforts between academia and government.
