Call to polish, utilize special skills of special children


LAHORE: (Tuesday, December 3, 2019): The special students of Punjab University Child Welfare Centre through their outstanding co-curricular performance have expressed that they carry special strengths and efforts must be made to polish and utilize their abilities for making them useful part of society. The event was organized in connection with the International Day for persons with Disabilities by PU Child Welfare Centre at Dr Pervez Hasan Environmental Law Auditorium with the collaboration of Crescent Model School. PU Vice Chancellor Prof Niaz Ahmad, former VC Lt Gen (r) Arshad Mahmood, Department of Special Education Chairperson Dr Humaira Bano, CWC Chairperson Ayesha Wajihullah, faculty members, special children and their parents participated in the ceremony. The special students presented Qawali to articulate their love with Hazrat Muhammad (SAW). Through a tableau, special children highlighted problems being faced by them regarding their admissions in schools of normal children. They outlined that they wanted to study with normal children and learn activities of everyday life in natural environment however they are denied admission in general schools. They showed that if they get admission in schools for normal children, they could improve themselves and it would also create a sense of helping others among normal children. The special children also expressed the pain they feel for Kashmiri children through a sketch who were not able to attend their schools since four months due to Indian forces’ brutalities. They highlighted the grievances of Kashmiri mothers who were losing their young children and living a miserable life. Wearing colorful dresses, the special children showed culture of all provinces of Pakistan during a performance on a national anthem. Their performance captivated the hearts of participants who lauded their skills with a huge round of applause and stood in their honor. Addressing the ceremony, PU Vice Chancellor Prof Niaz Ahmad said that Allah had bestowed special children with special abilities and we must encourage them. He said that PU administration was taking steps to provide training to special children. He said that special children should be given special attention so that they could live their life with others in a good way. He announced an honorarium for CWC teachers and appreciated the efforts of event organizers. Lt Gen (r) Arshad Mahmood said that we must extend maximum help to special children and those special children, who have relatively better health conditions, should be admitted in general schools. He said that these children were the responsibility of the society. He said that special children were a great source of getting Allah’s glory and to seek His pardon. Dr Humaira Bano thanked PU VC Prof Niaz Ahmad for recruitment of teachers and staff for CWC and extending maximum support for the welfare of special children. Later, certificates were distributed among the children who performed in the event.
