Need to adopt Iqbal’s ideology to bring change: PU VC


LAHORE: (Friday, December 8, 2017): Punjab University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Zafar Moeen Nasir has said that we need to follow Allama Iqbal’s ideology for bringing change in society. He was addressing a seminar on Allama Iqbal on 147th foundation day of PU Oriental College at Sherani Hall, Old Campus here on Friday. Allama Iqbal’s grandson Mr Muneeb Iqbal, PU Dean Faculty of Oriental Learning Prof Dr Saleem Mazhar, Imam Khumeni University Iran’s Pro- Vice Chancellor Hameed Tahiri, Istanbul University’s Dr Khalil Toqar, Principal Oriental College Prof Dr Fakhrul Haq Noori, heads of various departments and a large number of students were present on the occasion.

Addressing the ceremony, PU VC Dr Zafar Moeen Nasir said that Iqbal had termed youth “shaheen” and our youth must work together for progress of Pakistan. He said that youth was the real power of Pakistan who could bring the country forward. He said that it was our pride that Allama Iqbal joined PU Oriental College. Allama Iqbal’s grandson Muneeb Iqbal said that the three most important contributions of Allama Iqbal for creation of Pakistan were that he motivated the Muslims of subcontinent through his poetry, presentation of concept of Two Nation theory and bringing Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah back to fight for Muslims’ rights. He said that there was dire need to understand message given by Allama Iqbal. He clarified that today an audio was circulating on social media that a poem being recited was Allama Muhammad Iqbal’s voice but the audio note was fake as Allama Iqbal had never recorded any piece of his poetry. He said that the reason, which made a common person Allama Iqbal, was his love for Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). Imam Khumeni University Iran’s Pro- Vice Chancellor Hameed Tahiri said that Allama Iqbal was a great poet and he was not only a philosopher but sociologist as well. Dr Khalil Tooqar from Istanbul University said that Iqbal was much popular in Turkey too and we benefit from the ideology of Allama Iqbal. He said that Turkish people respected Pakistani nation the most as Pakistan had stood by Turkey in difficult times. He said that we consider Allama Iqbal our own poet and our President Mr Tayyip Erdogan used to read poetry of Allama Iqbal in his speeches. Dr Saleem Mazhar said that it was our pride that Allama Muhammad Iqbal started his career from Oriental College as research scholar. Earlier, PU VC Dr Zafar Moeen Nasir cut a cake to celebrate 147th foundation day of Oriental College.
