Webinar on Boosting wellbeing amidst second wave of Covid-19 through Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR)


Institute of Applied Psychology arranged a webinar on boosting wellbeing amidst second wave of Covid-19 through Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR). The webinar was chaired by Dr. Rafia Rafique, Director Institute of Applied Psychology. The resource persons were EMDR therapist Mr. Safa Kamal Kaptan who's doing his PhD in Clinical Psychology from University of Manchester and Miss. Mubashara Asif, PhD scholar and research associate at Pakistan Institute of Living and Learning. Resource persons discussed in detail about the EMDR therapy, it's background, techniques and their efficacy in management of trauma and PTSD. Discussion was done in the background of pandemic and it's negative implications on the well-being of individuals and it was furthered with demonstration of techniques like butterfly hug and how to use it to deal with pandemic-related stress. Dr. Rafia further explained how EMDR is a unique combination of different therapeutic techniques which has enhanced it's efficacy. The webinar concluded on the note that though pandemic has caused severe distress, but through practicing low-impact EMDR techniques, we can manage the stress and improve our overall well-being. The webinar was live streamed on IAP Facebook.
