PU organizes Int’l moot on solid state physics


LAHORE: (Monday, December 9, 2019): Punjab University Centre of Excellence in Solid State Physics has organized international conference on solid state physics at Pervez Hasan Environmental Law Auditorium. PU Vice Chancellor Prof Niaz Ahmad, Punjab Higher Education Commission Chairman Prof Dr Fazal Ahmad Khalid, Chairman Prof Dr Shahzad Naseem, conference secretary Dr Saira Riaz, experts from UK, China, Bangladesh, Malaysia and Pakistan and a large number of students participated in the event. Addressing the conference, PU VC Prof Niaz Ahmad urged the students to develop new ideas that addressed Pakistan’s issues and convert them into a business opportunity. He announced that PU administration would fund such projects. He said that such conferences provided an excellent opportunity for new researchers to network with renowned scientists in their fields. PHEC Chairman Prof Dr Fazal Ahmad Khalid said that no nation had progressed without education so it was a matter of life and death for us. He said that we must promote culture of tolerance in our society and use technology for resolving our problems. Prof Dr Shahzad Naseem said that this was the 4th in series of the solid state physics conferences organized by the centre. He said that there were 17 keynote lectures being delivered by foreign and local experts while around 60 invited talks were being given by researchers from China, Malaysia and Pakistan. He said that a total of over 500 papers would be presented at the conference with around 170 posters. He said that this was an unprecedented number in any of the conferences in Pakistan. Selected papers from the conference will be published by the IF journals associated with the conference, he added.
