Self examination, healthy lifestyle to help fight breast cancer


LAHORE: (Wednesday, November 27, 2019): Speakers at a seminar have urged the women to examine themselves and adopt a healthy lifestyle to avoid breast cancer. The seminar was organized by Punjab University Academic Staff Association at Al Raazi Hall here on Wednesday. Wife of Governor Punjab Mrs Parveen Sarwar, PU ASA President Prof Dr Mumtaz Anwar Chaudhry, Secretary Javed Sami, Treasurer Rafia Rafiq, Dean Faculty of Behavioral and Social Sciences Prof Dr Umbreen Javed, Dean Faculty of Life Sciences Prof Dr Firdous e Barin, Dr Anisa Fatima, faculty members and students from various departments participated in the event. Addressing the seminar, Mrs Parveen Sarwar said that women must ensure self examination of breast cancer so that it could be detected at an early stage. She said that if women would be healthy, they would be able to look after their families in a good way. Mrs Sarwar said that there was utmost need to create awareness against breast cancer among village women and provide them facilities. She urged the participants to create awareness among their family members and friends so that they could cope with the fatal disease timely. She said that we must work for humanity and dedicate our time to serve mankind. In her keynote address, Dr Anisa Fatima said that women should give more attention to their health than makeup and dresses. She said that women should avoid unhealthy lifestyle and food including farm chicken, pizzas, burgers that were one of the causes of breast cancer. She advised them to eat fruits, vegetables and nuts to keep themselves healthy. She urged the girls to take care of themselves for the sake of people who were connected to them. She also performed self-examination test to detect breast cancer. Prof Dr Umbreen Javed said that women should dedicate five minutes for themselves a month to cope with the menace. Dr Firdous e Barin said that around 90 thousand women suffer from breast cancer every year therefore women must examine themselves for timely detection of breast cancer because it was the only way to survive. Later, Mrs Parveen Sarwar and PU Vice Chancellor Prof Niaz Ahmad led an awareness walk against breast cancer from Al Raazi Hall to vice chancellor’s office.
